The Mike De Kock trained, Australian bred, son of MAGIC ALBERT, SUYOOF, expertly ridden by the current jockey at the top of the jockey's list for the season, Anthony Delpech, won his third race in a row this afternoon and his second consecutive feature race when he held on to fend off a fast-finishing CHAMPAGNE HAZE over 1450m.
The start was delayed for a few minutes whilst LE CLOS came out on to track five minutes after the rest of the field. The Mike Azzie trained LE CLOS was the first to show from draw two and held his place for the majority of the race. SCHEME OF THINGS also found himself amongst the leading division early on. CELTIC CAPTAIN and the favourite, NEW PREDATOR were up there early on. The Justin Snaith trained LINEKER was taken up for a stride or two in the early stages and never ran any kind of race.
The pace was rather a sedate one with no one haring off to the front. LE CLOS was content to lead them into the home straight from NEW PREDATOR, NEW PREDATOR, CELTIC CAPTAIN and SCHEME OF THINGS. The eventual winner, SUYOOF began to tighten up as he found a position near the inside running rail. Whilst he was improving so was CHAMPAGNE HAZE who applied the pressure right up until the line. The connections of LE CLOS can be more than happy with his showing as he stayed on for third. The favourite was not disgraced in fourth.
This was SUYOOF's third win from four starts, almost doubled his earnings from R163 000 to just short of R320 000.
