There was an exciting finish finish to the Grade 3 Three Troikas Stakes at Turffontein this afternoon. Another well ridden feature race winner was produced by Piere Strydom when he produced the three year old daughter of COUNT DU BOIS. The Robbie Sage trained filly never had the race her own way as the tote favourite, NEGROAMARO, under Anton Marcus, applied the pressure to go down by only a head at the line..
The start was a good one with MADAME DU BOIS, from stall gate number two, showed the early way from PENNY SERENADE and NOOR. Unlike the pace of the previous race, the pace in the fillies version, was a good one.
JOAN RANGER was allowed to dictate the pace from NOOR from PENNY SERENADE and CRYSTAL GLAMOUR. The well fancied NEGROAMARO was mid division along with the eventual winner, MADAME DU BOIS.
JOAN RANGER made a dash for home but was soon overtaken by NOOR, who soon fell away. MADAME DU BOIS made a dash for it at the 300m mark but then so did NEGROAMARO. It was left to these two to fight it out. JUXTAPOSE cam from nowhere to grab third from SHE'S A DRAGON, who only found a finish when the race was over.
This was her third win from seven starts and only once did she fail to finish in the top three. Her earnings have now reached in excess of R500 000.
