TOMMY HOTSPUR HANDICAP (Grade 3) - The back-to-form MOOFEED looking to continue the trend tonight

MOOFEED, the Mike De Kock trained five year old son of DUKE OF MARMALADE, showed a welcome return to form last time on the inside track when he recorded his sixth career win from twenty two starts. That day he won a condition race when finishing strongly. He is back over the course and distance where he has won two from three starts with a close up second on the third occasion.

SPLENDID GARDEN beat MOOFEED the last day that they met on this track, but over 1160m. He is 1½ kg better off tonight, but MOOFEED did show the necessary improvement last time to suggest that it will not be as easy this time around to win again. On form his chances should not be ignored.

One of the "hottest" trainers at present is Alec Laird who hasn't relented since he won the J & B Met a mere ten days ago. He has two runners in the race. DOLLAR DAZZLER will be ridden by jockey Andrew Fortune who rode four winners on the eight race card in Port Elizabeth on Monday. DOLLAR DAZZLER was an unlucky loser on Summer Cup Day when he suffered a saddle slip in the Merchants. It was a great run that day as he finished a close up third behind BRUTAL FORCE. That day he started at 25/1. He is currently priced up at 9/2. He has beaten MOOFEED before.

DOING IT FOR DAN will be running on while MOD BARLEY shows very good early pace. He is 1½ kg better off tonight for a one and a quarter length defeat by MOOFEED. He must have a chance if stealing a march on the field.

1st - MOOFEED (4); 2nd - SPLENDID GARDEN (5); 3rd - DOLLAR DAZZLER (1); 4th - DOING IT FOR DAN (2); 5th - MOD BARLEY (8)
