Futura and Legislate to stand at Drakenstein

Drakenstein Stud will be home to two well bred champion sons of Dynasty in 2016 –and, remarkably, both are Horse Of The Year winners.
Legislate and Futura will both stand their first seasons at Drakenstein Stud in 2016, with Futura already at the farm where he is settling in to his new life.

His paternal half brother, and fellow champion Legislate, is currently in training but is expected to retire to Drakenstein at the end of the season.

Futura, bred by Guy Murdoch, was an exceptional racehorse, who won from 1200-2000m. The multiple Equus Champion, and South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2015, won or placed in 16 of his 18 outings and earned more than R4.3 million in stakes.

The handsome son of Dynasty won four Grade One races, with Futura’s wins including the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and J&B Met, as well as back to back wins in the Champions Cup.
Futura won or placed in a total of seven Grade One races and accounted for such notable stars of the track as Afrikaburn, Capetown Noir, Captain America, Cherry On The Top, French Navy, Gold Onyx, In The Fast Lane, King Of Pain, Legal Eagle, Louis The King, Majmu, Pine Princess, Pomodoro, Power King, Willow Magic, and Wylie Hall.

By one of South Africa’s elite stallions, and from the powerful Sadler’s Wells male line, Futura hails from a family responsible for such top class performers as champions Aslan and Equina, G1 Paddock Stakes winner Angelina, and the classic winning filly Danseuse Classique.

He traces back to the outstanding broodmare Ranai –the dam of 2000 Guineas winner Garden Path and Epsom Derby winner Watling Street.

All in all, Futura is a classically bred champion by one of South Africa’s greatest sires and is bred to be anything at stud.

His paternal half brother Legislate, who was bred by the Cheveley Stud, was also a champion out of the top-drawer.

South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2014, Legislate (whose full sister is on offer at April’s National Sale), was an outstanding racehorse who picked up four Equus Awards –Horse Of Year, Champion 3YO Colt, Champion Middle Distance Horse and Champion Miler.

The handsome bay, who has already banked over R5.7 million in stakes, has six graded wins in his seven victories to date thus far, with Legislate having emulated his mighty sire Dynasty in landing the G1 Investec Cape Derby, G1 Vodacom Durban July, G2 KRA Guineas and G2 Green Point Stakes.
A record holder for 1600m at Kenilworth, Legislate has won or placed in seven Grade One races in trip from 1200-2000m, and is as versatile as he is brilliant.

Bred on the hugely successful Sadler’s Wells/Danehill cross (responsible for undefeated sensation Frankel and leading sire Teofilo), Legislate is out of a four time winning half sister to G2 Merchants winner Black Skimmer and he hails from the same family as G1 winning 2yo Roxanne and the top class speedster Jungle Class –with the latter being a full sister to Legislate’s second dam. - Cape Breeders
