PREVIEW: SCOTTSVILLE - 25 APRIL 2016
RACE 1:
10-12-1-7-9
Most of the runners are first timers.One needs to check the betting on the entire field. The grey first timer and son of CAPTAIN AL, SECRET CAPTAIN (1st), could be the one worth following. THE CARPENTER (2nd), son of FORT WOOD is also a well bred first timer making his entrance into the racing world. APRES SKI (3rd) is a WESTERN WINTER first timer. MARSHALL THAT (4th) is also a FORT WOOD first timer. Of those that have run, SARACEN KING (5th) could be the best.
RACE 2:
3-1-2-4-5
The juvenile fillies running in this race have done nothing to show that they could be anything special but they have every chance of improving to win a few. FLASH FIRE (1st) weakened on debut in Cape Town last time but that run gives a hint that he could be a decent sort. The fact that he has been brought to KZN could be significant. BLACK HALL BAR (2nd) could improve on a moderate debut when racing green. DRESS FOR SUCCESS (3rd) is an ASHAAWES first timer. KUDRA (4th) has had two very moderate runs. QUEEN DIVA (5th) will have to improve some to win.
RACE 3:
6-3-9-7-12
PAREE (1st) is holding form well. She makes her KZN return today. Highveld form could see her through. MISS BRODY (2nd) was an unlucky loser against stronger last time. Rarely runs a bad race and can be expected to run well today. JUST RAP (3rd) had to switch late last time. That was a promising effort and she can earn something in this race. RAVISHING LILLY (4th) is not always that sound but on her day can go very close. WANDIE’S (5th) has improved in KZN.
RACE 4:
2-1-4-3-8
This looks to be a two horse race but also with a possibility of an upset result. BENGAL BOY (1st) has been hovering around his fourth win for a while now. He was running on well and the apprentice claim of 2½ kg is sure to help. PIANO MAN (2nd) has excellent form over this C & D. Has been lacking a finish in his last few but it still looks to be a shoot out between these two. The balance of the field take on stronger than in their previous races. HOT CHILLI (3rd) looks to be the best of these. BURRWOOD (4th) found an electrifying late finish last time. THE BIG LEAGUE (5th) tries this distance for the very first time.
RACE 5:
4-1-3-2-5
This should be a good contest. SOLAR STAR (1st) will be doing his best work late. Has been consistent. HELDERBERG BLUE (2nd) needs to be respected. He has raced against stronger. He is never far away, even against the best in the top races around the country. He could win here but has not won in 18 months. SERISSA (3rd) will be fighting to the end. Will be good enough to earn.NO WORRIES (4th) is another one who has not won in over 18 months but can place. QATAR SPRINGS (5th) is one that may cause an upset.
RACE 6:
4-1-2-3-8
A number of horses drop in class. BALANCE SHEET (1st) is not a confident selection but one cannot ignore the jockey and trainer combination. Loses ground at the start but finishes well. MASTER'S EYE (2nd) is another Cape Town horse who has been running on against stronger. Top Cape Town jockey aboard. First run in KZN. Last win exactly a year ago. IT IS WRITTEN (3rd), and stable companion to BALANCE SHEET is unbeaten this track (2 from 2). Starts slowly but runs on well. DYNASTIC POWER (4th) makes it four Cape Town runners challenging for top honours. Forgive his latest run ans that was his first since the end of the previous season. STORMY ECLIPSE (5th) carries the hopes of the locally trained horses in this race. Top form and has top jockey riding.
RACE 7:
1-3-11-4-6
GALLICA ROSE (1st) last ran in KZN during the last season. She had excellent form last season when in KZN and is the class horse in the race but whether she is the same horse as last year remains to be seen. The connections would be aiming her for some bigger and better things this season and she is too classy to leave out in this race. TRINI’S COLATERAL (2nd) has shown potential as a three year old and she did stay on well last time and has won twice at this track. ADORADA (3rd) makes her KZN debut from Cape Town. She has been in top, top form, against weaker though but she is one not to ignore. DEPUTY RYDER (4th) has also made the journey from Cape Town. Was not disgraced in the Grade 1 Majorca Stakes two runs back when finishing a mere 4½ lengths behind INARA.WORK ETHIC (5th) is never far back but tends to weaken late.
RACE 8:
2-6-5-4-3
FIRST APOSTLE (1st) has run three times and has done everything in those runs, except win. Looks to be the one to beat. ran well this distance at Greyville last time. Top jockey engaged. SECRET SERVICE (2nd) gave it his all last time and was a short head second behind WHAT A SCORCHER over the distance at Greyville. ROY’S AMAZING ASH (3rd) has also been improving and has a shout. COZZENES PRINCE (4th) finished well last time despite being slow away. TRINITY HALL (5th) may prefer the extra distance. Top jockey involved.

BEST VALUE: RACE 5 NUMBER 4 SOLAR STAR
BEST OUTSIDER: RACE 1 NUMBER 10 SECRET CAPTAIN
