GODOLPHIN BARB STAKES (Grade 3) - Follow the RED CHESTNUT ROAD

5-1-2-7-6

This meeting has a feeling of anti-climax as we move from four grade one races at Turffontein on the last day of April to the the Grade three races at Scottsville on the first day in May. This is a race for juvenile colts who have only had a run or two and form is limited. In and amongst the fields, there will be some pointers to later ion in the season when a few of these juveniles will be contesting the more lucrative features during the Winter Season, along with those that shone on Champions Day at Turffontein yesterday.

RED CHESNUT ROAD was well backed in on his debut last time and literally cruised in by almost eight lengths. This race will tell us whether he is as good as that run was. He showed great pace and pulled away in the latter stages. That run was at this track but over 100m further.

The only two-time winner in the race is ROB'S JEWEL who has won two from three races. He won both his starts at Scottsville and ran in a feature at Turffontein in which he ran a close up fourth. This son of ARGONAUT will be running on.

GUNNER won on debut last time and also looks difficult to assess. On that run he should earn something. SKIP THE RED ran moderately on debut three runs back but won his next race at this track against a weak field. Last time he showed huge improvement with that win under his belt even though he was once again beaten by ROB'S JEWEL. This time he cut the deficit by around six lengths. Sean Tarry sends out RED ROCK. Today he has sent S'Manga Khumalo to ride at Scottsville which is a clear indication that this meeting will be taken seriously.
