GODOLPHIN BARB STAKES (Grade 3) - RED CHESTNUT ROAD is not a cul de sac
The two year old USA bred son of PATHFORK, RED CHESTNUT ROAD, could well be worth following in the future. He won his maiden at this track last time when winning by an impressive, eight lengths. The distance today was 100m shorter, but he still drew away in impressive style. The Robbie Hill trained colt was always handy and never allowed anyone to get away from him. At the 600m mark ROB'S JEWEL put the pressure on the favourite. For a brief period it looked as though he could be beaten but despite his greenness, the feeling that he is laid back and the pressure of being headed. RED CHESTNUT ROAD, pulled through with flying colours and by the time they had reached the 400m mark it was very much over. There is still more to come from this smart looking colt.
Once again the start was not a good one with SKIP THE RED being bumped at the start. ROB'S JEWEL was the first to go and showed good pace for half the race. He was tracked by the favourite, RECD ROCK and OVER SURE.
OVER SURE (Kumaran Naidoo) ran on for second. The maiden, TIMEDTOPERFECTION (Corne Spies) ran on well for third with ROB'S JEWEL (Mike Miller) staying on for fourth.
The win shoots his earnings to exactly R175 000.
