POINSETTIA STAKES (Grade 3) - REAL PRINCESS confirms her close third to CARRY ON ALICE in December
REAL PRINCESS, the four year old daughter of TRIPPI, showed that he close to CARRY ON ALICE at Kenilworth in December was no fluke when she won a good contest in the Grade 3 Poinsettia Stakes at Scottsville this afternoon. What made the run more impressive was that she was squeezed at the start and to make up the ground over a sprint had to be something special. Cape Town based trainer, Dean Kannemeyer, has been having an excellent stint in KZN since the beginning of the last Winter Season when he set up his satellite yard.
The race was on throughout and the lead changed hands a number of times with the balance tucked in behind. COSMIC LIGHT showed the early pace. FREE STATE showed very good pace along with VICTORIA LAVELLE and BICHETTE. All the fancied runners with the exception of REAL PRINCESS who was further back.
With 200m to go there was a wall of horses coming down to do battle. All the while REAL PRINCESS was making ground free from the other horses with Anthony Delpech riding a masterful race. She drew clear well in the latter stages.LANNER FALCON ran a good race when running on for second. VICTORIA LAVELLE also stayed on with FREE STATE.
