RED LETTER DAY FOR SHAMARDAL

Sunday afternoon yielded excellent results for Kildangan Stud's Shamardal as first he sired DARIYAN to land the Group 1 Prix Ganay in France, then a little over an hour later ROYAL SOLITAIRE (IRE) prevailed in a Listed event for fillies and mares in Germany.

The Aga Khan's DARIYAN has had the air of a Group 1 winner in waiting for some time, having performed creditably in the Hong Kong Vase and the Sheema Classic over 12 furlongs. Dropped back in distance in the Ganay, he readily accounted for his opposition, coming from off the pace to score by just over a length.

The Grosser Preis von Rossmann at Hanover marked a second consecutive Listed success for ROYAL SOLITAIRE (IRE) and she looks very capable of winning at a higher level. This was her sixth win in total and the form of her previous Listed success has worked out well with the runner-up, Nymeria, finishing an unlucky second in a Group 3 at Chantilly last week.
