SILVANO takes top honours for South African Racing SIRES OF THE WEEK from Monday 23 May to Thursday 26 May

SILVANO had four winners, of which, all but one was at the Vaal on Thursday. His first winner came on Wednesday on the Greyville Polytrack over 1600m with the Andre Nel trained SILVER ROSE. On Thursday, PLATINUM LEGEND won over 1400m, SILVER DUCHESS over 1700m and MALINGA also won over 1700m.

SILVANO is German bred sire and well renowned breeder of Grade 1 winners. These winners include POWER KING (Durban July),  BOLD SILVANO (Durban July), VERCINGETORIX (Daily News and two in Dubai, KINGS GAMBIT (SA Classic & SA Derby), BRAVURA (Cape Derby), DO YOU REMEMBER (Woolavington & SA Fillies Guineas), SEAL (SA Derby), HEAVY METAL (Durban July), MARTIAL EAGLE (J & B Met), BULSARA (SA Classic & Champions Cup), ASLAN (Summer Cup & Gold Cup), FLIRTATION (Summer Cup), FIELD FLOWER (Cape Fillies Guineas), HAPPY VALENTINE (Allan Robertson) and WAVIN' FLAG (Gold Cup)..

In the 2012/13 season, his progeny won four of the five richest Grade 1′s in the country, including the Grade 1 J&B Met with MARTIAL EAGLE and the Grade 1 Durban July with HEAVY METAL. Other July winners include BOLD SILVANO (2010) and POWER KING (2015).

SILVANO himself was a class act. He won three Grade 1 races on two different continents. They include the Arlington Million, The Queen Elizabeth II Cup and the Singapore Cup. All three Grade 1's were won over 2000m.

He had a Timeform rating of 126 and was also voted German Horse of the year in 2001. On the breeding side he was named Champion Freshman Sire in Germany as well and finishing second behind GALILEO as Leading European second season Freshman Sire.
