Drama as Khumalo "drops hands", loses race

In a hugely controversial moment today, S'manga Khumalo, the 2013/2014 South African champion jockey and current leader of the championship, was found to be not riding a horse out. This is not the first time either.

This time the Durban born rider was in Port Elizabeth (Race 3) aboard the Justin Snaith runner, Captain Courteous,  a 7/1 shot, when he apparently stopped riding the horse at the 50m mark whilst the horse was cruising to victory.

In the meanwhile, the favourite Seattle Light with Luyolo Mxothwa onboard, flew home to pip Khumalo and win.

Seattle Light was quoted at 2/1 having opened at 28/10

Khumalo was found guilty by the NHA he "failed to ride the horse DRAGOON out to the end of the race"  at the Vaal this April. Read it here

Khumalo was also fined R75000 for not riding his mount in a "competent and professional manner" in 2013. Read it here
