Northern Cape RA awards

The Northern Cape RA Awards have become the traditional curtain raiser to Kimberley’s biggest race meeting of the season, the Flamingo Park Raceday, which is to be held on Saturday August 6.

The Awards evening will be held at the Kalahari Hotel on Friday August 5 and is always a social occasion to look forward to. Furthermore, runners participating in the RA Flamingo Mile the following day will be “auctioned off” and a percentage of the takings are donated to a local charity.

The award categories include leading owner, trainer and jockey as well as Horse of the Season.

Gary Waterston, who is the Academy Master at the Gauteng Jockeys’ Academy situated at Randjesfontein, Midrand, will donate a floating trophy to be received by the leading apprentice.

The Flamingo Park Raceday the following day is headed by the Non-Black Type R200,000 RA Flamingo Mile and the supporting features are the Non-Black Type R135,000 World Sports Betting Sprint over 1000m and the Non-Black Type R100,000 RA Diamond Stayers over 2200m. The meeting always provides an opportunity for a thoroughly enjoyable family day out with the Kimberley Town & Country market apart from the racing and socialising, plenty of on course entertainment for kids is provided.

Limited seats are available in the Racing Association facility at a cost of R450per person (Food & Beverage) and can be booked by calling 011 683 3220 or email [email protected]
