DUKE OF MARMALADE REPRESENTED IN GOODWOOD FEATURES

Drakenstein Stud’s exciting young sire and former Cartier Champion, Duke Of Marmalade, will be strongly represented in a number of feature races at this week’s Glorious Goodwood meeting.

The son of Danehill is the sire of the top class galloper Big Orange, one of the favourites to land Thursday’s major feature, the Gr2 Qatar Goodwood Cup.
Coming into the Goodwood Cup off a repeat win in the Gr2 Princess of Wales’s Arqana Racing Club Stakes, Big Orange will be looking to become the first back to back winner of the race since Double Trigger (who won the race a total of three times) scored the double in 1997-1998. (The mighty Yeats won the race twice recently but not consecutively, while Persian Punch scored in 2001 and 2003 respectively).

The high class Big Orange, who was fifth in last year’s Gr1 Emirates Melbourne Cup, has won six times and amassed over £580 000 in stakes. He is not his sire sole Goodwood feature race contender this year, however.

Duke Of Marmalade (who himself won five consecutive Gr1 races) is also the sire of recent Listed John Smith’s Silver Cup winner Pamona, a leading contender for Thursday’s Gr3 Markel Insurance Fillies’ Stakes (registered as the Lillie Langtry Stakes).

The Gr3 Lillie Langtry was won last year by Duke Of Marmalade’s classic winning champion, Simple Verse.

Duke Of Marmalade, a half brother to former Gr1 Investec Derby winner Ruler Of The World (Galileo), will be represented by his first South African crop of yearlings in 2017.
