TRIPPI-SOUTH AFRICA’S CHAMPION SIRE FOR 2015-2016

Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi has been crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire for the 2015-2016 season.
The handsome son of End Sweep ended the season with his offspring (which included 112 winners) having earned R18 666 925, and beat out former champion sire Silvano (Lomitas) by just R195 800 to claim his first ever General Sires title.

Captain Al (Al Mufti), who picked up his eighth consecutive 2yo sires title, Dynasty (Fort Wood) and Kahal (Machiavellian) rounded out the top five stallions on the General Sires List (according to the NHA).

Trippi was represented by 11 individual black type winners for the season just finished, with his top performers including triple Gr1 winning filly Inara and Gr1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint winner Real Princess.

Other notable performers to represent Trippi this season included Gr1 Summer Cup runner up Deo Juvente, Trip To Heaven (who finished first past the post in the Gr1 Rising Sun Challenge but was late demoted to second), Gr2 Cape Merchants hero Triptique, and Gr3 Umzikhulu Stakes winner Fromafar.

Trippi is also the sire of Illuminator –who the inaugural CTS Million Dollar earlier this season, and top class 2yo filly Dawn Calling, runner up in both the Gr1 Thekwini Stakes and Gr2 Golden Slipper.

While Captain Al dominated the 2YO Sires List (he finished nearly R1 000 000 clear of runner up Var –and had three times the number of stakes winners (6) than any other sire of 2yos last season), it was Varsfontein Stud’s red hot young sire Gimmethegreenlight who was South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire for 2015-2016.
A son of More Than Ready, Gimmethegreenlight ended the season with his 2yos having won 16 races and earned R1 776 762. A tremendous graded double (with Hack Green and Gunner) ensured that Gimmethegreenlight would lead the list –and he did, finishing well clear of Philanthropist, Pathfork, Bold Silvano and Gitano Hernando on the first season sires list.

Mauritzfontein Stud’s late, great sire Fort Wood picked up his second consecutive Broodmare Sires title when he led the list for 2015-2016. The son of Sadler’s Wells’ daughters were represented by 12 stakes winners this past season, who picked up 17 stakes victories. Fort Wood daughters’ runners earned R21 561 762 last season –nearly R8 000 000 more than those of runner up Western Winter.

Top performers out of Fort Wood mares this season included the G1 winners Noah From Goa, Real Princess and recent G1 Mike And Carol Bass Champions Cup hero Marinaresco.
