SOLID SPEED HALF BROTHER TOPS TWO YEAR OLD SALE

A Silvano half brother to the now retired G2 Betting World 1900 winner Solid Speed (Dynasty) was the sales topper of the 2016 National Two Year Old Sale, which ended early Friday evening.

Named William Junior, the bay was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for a sales topping R2 100 000.

He is out of the winning Jallad mare Boston Tea Party, whose other notable progeny include Gr3 Jubilee Handicap runner up Rainy Day Blues (Western Winter). William Junior’s popularity helped ensure that Silvano ended the sale as the Leading Sire by aggregate –with his seven two-year-olds grossing R2 975 000.

Another former champion sire, Captain Al, accounted for the sales topping filly, with his daughter Lantana Lady (pictured)  (an own sister to ill-fated Listed Java Handicap hero Fulcrum) being purchased by Varsfontein Stud for R800 000. Like the sales topper himself, Lantana Lady was consigned by Klipdrif Stud (As Agent) –the leading vendors, by aggregate, of the 2016 National Two Year OId Sale.

The blue blooded Lantana Lady is also a three parts sister to former Equus Champion and Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Captain''s Lover, who, like the R800 000 filly, is a daughter of Captain Al

The National Two Year Old Sale ended up on a real high, with all of the aggregate, average and median increasingly notably. The aggregate rose to R23 920 000, while the average enjoyed a remarkable 35% rise to R120 808 –the highest average ever recorded in the history of this sale.
