SONS OF MORE THAN READY MAKE THEIR MARK

WinStar Stud’s highly successful resident sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo) is rapidly establishing himself as a very successful sire of sires.

Himself a top class racehorse (he won the G1 King’s Bishop Stakes and finished second to South African champion sire Trippi in the Gr1 Vosburgh Stakes), More Than Ready has long been one of the world’s top sires, with his progeny including more than 160 stakes winners.

More Than Ready, who has topped the 2yo sires list in both North America and Australia, has an astonishing 300 black type horses to his credit, a tally which includes 22 individual Gr1 winners, and his runners have earned more than $139 000 000 worldwide.
However, it is as a sire of sires that the Southern Halo son has been truly making waves.

More Than Ready is the sire of former Gr1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate hero Gimmethegreenlight, who ended 2015-2016 as South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire. The sire of 20 individual first crop winners thus far, Gimmethegreenlight’s first crop includes Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes hero, and Equus Award nominee, Gunner, undefeated Gr2 Umkhomazi Stakes winner Hack Green, and recent BSA Million Mile victor Legend. Other notables to have emerged from this crop include BSA Million Sprint runner up Green Pepper and the undefeated Green Lantern.

Another son of More Than Ready, the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum owned Perfectly Ready is currently the Leading Sire by Stakes in New Zealand. Himself winner of the Gr1 Goodwood Handicap, Perfectly Ready’s top performers included the high class stakes winners Miss Three Stars, Moozoon and Perfect Start.

More Than Ready’s top son Sebring (who stands at Widden Stud in Australia for a fee of $77 000) is a proven top class sire, whose progeny (including Horse Of The Year Dissident and four time Gr1 winner Criterion) have earned over AUS $31 000 000 in stakes.

Yet another son of the sire, former Gr2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf hero Pluck (a three parts brother to Gimmethegreenlight’s unbeaten son Hack Green), was one of the Leading First Crop Sires in Australasia.
Out of the South African bred Gr1 performer Secret Heart (Fort Wood), Pluck’s nine first crop winners to date include the stakes performer Gasoline and the impressive South African winner Aussie Austin.
