INQUIRY – TRAINER C J LENSLEY

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry was held at the Head Office at Turffontein Racecourse on 7 September 2016.

Trainer Mr C J Lensley was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.4 in that a specimen taken from the horse HEAVEN ON EARTH, after it participated in and won the 2nd race at Flamingo Park Racecourse on 23 May 2016, contained Salbutamol, a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa.

Mr Lensley pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

In applying the relevant guidelines when determining the sum of the penalty to be imposed, the Inquiry Board took cognisance of the factors stated in mitigation, as well the frank manner in which Mr Lensley approached the Inquiry, and imposed a fine of R23 000-00.

Furthermore, in terms of Rule 72.3.2, HEAVEN ON EARTH is disqualified from the 2nd race run at Flamingo Park Racecourse on 23 May 2016 and the provisions of Rule 67.7.8 shall apply.

INQUIRY – FLAMINGO PARK RACECOURSE 25 JULY 2016 - RACE 3

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an inquiry was held at its offices on 7 September 2016, into the reasons why Jockey’s J P van der Merwe (RAVING JEWEL), C Zackey (MONTE CARLO PLAYER), D L Habib (BAY OF ROCHELLE), R Munger (ROCK BURNER), E Pheiffer (SEVENTH HEIRESS), M Yeni (JULIE), C Storey (BEACH BIRD) and Apprentice’s C Murray (MATHS MAJOR) and C Ngcobo (SWITCHED ON), failed to comply with a reasonable instruction from a licensed official following a false start called in Race 3 run at the Flamingo Park Racecourse on Monday 25 July 2016.

The Board, after viewing the patrol films of the race and hearing all the evidence and also taking into account that there was a strong wind blowing and an electric lightning storm in close proximity when the start was effected, which accounted for the Riders being unable to hear the siren when the false start was called, ruled that no further action be taken.
