SOUTH AFRICAN BRED SCORES IN SINGAPORE

The South African bred gelding Mighty Emperor picked up the fifth Singapore win of his career when he was victorious in a class 4 handicap at Kranji on Friday.

Trained by South African born Pat Shaw, the five-year-old chestnut gelding (who provided his trainer with a second leg of a winning double) weaved his way through the chasing pack, to pop up at the right time and went on to score by a length over 1800m.

His trainer was delighted by the win, commenting, “Mighty Emperor has really turned the corner since I’ve changed his work. I have put a lot more speed in his work and it’s done the trick,” said Shaw.

“He was more one-paced before but you can tell he can quicken up good in the straight now, and he’s now won three in a row.”

Owned by the Avengers Stable, Mighty Emperor has now won or placed in 10 of his 17 outings and has earned SIN $154 930 in prize money.

The gelding was bred by the Northfields Stud.

He is a son of the late KZN sire Kahal, whose 70 odd stakes horses include no fewer than 20 individual Grade One performers –notably Bold Ellinore, Chocolicious, Desert Links, Love Struck and Spiced Gold.

Mighty Emperor is one of four winners out of former Gr3 Winter Derby/Gr3 Final Fling Stakes winner Sweet Virginia (Casey Tibbs), whose Listed Sophomore Sprint winning son Strongman (now racing as Horse Of Fortune) has won four times in Hong Kong.
