Tellina Second in German Feature

The South African bred Tellina was impressive in his European debut when he was beaten into second in the German St Leger over 2800m at Dortmund Racecourse on Sunday.

The gelding, trained by Geoff Woodruff in South Africa and Mike De Kock in Dubai, is now in the care of German ace Andreas Wohler.

The early stages of the race panned out satisfactorily for Tellina, who found a slot midfield in the marathon event at the German course. He tracked the leaders for the majority of the event in this mid division position before accelerating in the straight only to be beaten by the 3 year old filly Near England who was slightly better placed in the run in and made up the ground to win well. Tellina's part to the line was disrupted by a five wide position into the straight and it cost him valuable ground.

It was an excellent Group 3 bow for the talented Maine Chance owned gelding. He was ridden by Eduardo Pedroza.
