BRITISH WINNER FOR SA MARE

Riyo Stud’s top class broodmare Bella Cantata (Singspiel) was represented by a British winner on Wednesday afternoon.

Her durable nine-year-old son Bronze Beau (Compton Place) made it win number ten when scoring a neck victory in a 1000m handicap at Redcar. Allowed to start a 16-1 shot, the gelding (who has won or placed in no fewer than 38 races) was always handy in the sprint contest and was ridden to hit the front with a furlong left to run.

Bronze Beau is one of three winners for the blue blooded Bella Cantata –whose most notable progeny is former German classic winner Caspar Netscher (Dutch Art).

The latter, who returned to the track after proving sub-fertile in his first season at stud, has won six times and earned over £460 000 in prize money, with Caspar Netscher’s top wins including the classic Gr2 Mehl-Mulhens Rennen (German 2000 Guineas) in 2012, as well as the 2014 G2 Nearctic Stakes (he also won both the Gr2 Mill Reef Stakes and Gr2 Gimcrack Stakes as a two-year-old and preceded his German classic triumph with a victory in the Gr3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury).

Bella Cantata, herself a half sister to ill-fated KZN sire Mullins Bay (Machiavellian), is also dam of useful local filly Bella Sonata (Silvano) –a R700 000 buy from the 2014 National Sale.

The mare is set to visit Ascot Stud’s exciting new Galileo sire Global View (pictured) this year.
