In one of the worst kept secrets in South African racing, Sun International was announced as the sponsors of the Cape Metropolitan, formerly the J&B Met. The stake of the race has been raised to R5 million, a record for an open race in South Africa. 

The Metropolitan has a steep and magnificent history but had a few lean years with attendances dropping and local interest waning. The new sponsor will likely allow for a reinvigoration of the event itself and bring back the Met glory days. Racing in Cape Town deserves that.
