Jameka's dominant Caulfield Cup victory

Favourite Jameka has blown her local and international rivals away to hand trainer Ciaron Maher his first Caulfield Cup victory.

Last year's VRC Oaks winner loomed up on the turn after getting an ideal run throughout and won so easily that jockey Nick Hall, who claimed his second win in the race following Fawkner's victory three years ago, had time to stand in the irons and punch the air in delight in the last 50m.

Godolphin's international raider Scottish finished second ahead of Lee and Anthony Freedman's import Exospheric. Scottish carries the form of Yorker who he just beat last time out.

With Maher confirming Jameka will now tackle next month's Melbourne Cup at Flemington, CrownBet reacted to the win by installing her a joint $6 favourite with Hartnell, ahead of Exospheric and Bondi Beach (both $11).

“Wow. It was the perfect ride, Nick stayed very cool, it’s one of the Big Three, we’re just thrilled,’’ Maher said.

“She’s such a competitive horse. I didn’t want to get too excited but about the 100m I thought ‘well we’re kicking into gear now’.’’

Former Mike De Kock charge, Almoonqith (USA), a three time winner in Dubai and now in the care of David Hayes, ran a creditable fourth beaten 4.25 lengths. Additional reporting Racing.com, image racing.com
