A Smart Call to be made soon on Breeders' Cup

The Breeders' Cup Filly and Mares Turf is on the agenda for the South Africa mare Smart Call, however in recent weeks a cloud of concern has grown over her wellbeing due to her morning of the event scratching in the Sun Chariot Stakes.

Jessica Slack, owner of Smart Call spoke to SAHorseracing.COM about her current well being.

"Smart Call is sound and back in work. She missed about ten days work after the Sun Chariot so we obviously had to start slowly. We are still hoping to be ready to go to Santa Anita for the Breeders Cup, but will only make a final call next week after she has done some fast work. As much as we are desperate to be at the Breeders Cup and will do everything we can to help Smart Call prepare, she is our top priority and her health and well being comes first. The European horses fly to California on the 28th, so if she is on track, she will join them. The team will make a final call in the middle of next week and we are hoping to confirm a jockey by then too."
