Winx confirmed herself as the best in the land and one of the best in the world as she sealed her status in Saturday’s William Hill Cox Plate win at Moonee Valley.

The Chris Waller-trained mare joined Hall of Famers Sunline, Tranquil Star and Flight as mares to have won the event more than once when she went back to back in the countries greatest weight for age event. 

The race of the Year between herself and Hartnell only began at the 400m pole when Winx approached the forward running Hartnell. The contest that everyone anticipated never really materialised as the champion, Winx ran past her rival like her was standing still. She went onto win by 8 lengths in the end in  a commanding win. 

The $1.80 favourite’s margin over Hartnell eclipsed the previous record of seven lengths, held by Dulcify and Sunline.
