JUST SENSUAL STARS IN GUINEAS THRILLER

The Joey Ramsden trained Just Sensual (Dynasty) prevailed in a thrilling finish to the running of the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth on Saturday.
The Mayfair Speculator owned filly was a quietly fancied 11-2 shot for the R1 000 000 1600m classic, with last season's G1 Thekwini Stakes winning Querari Falcon (Querari) jumping as the 7-2 favourite.
Undefeated Australian filly Quick Brown Fox (Foxwedge) had her share of supporters, as did recent Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes Safe Harbour (Elusive Fort). Impressive recent winner Sail was allowed to drift all the way out in the betting from 5-1 to 13-1 as doubts about her overcoming a 13 draw continued to mount.

It was impressive recent G3Starling Stakes winner She's A Giver (one of two Philanthropist fillies in the race) who went up to make the running. The grey went onto lead the field turning for home, with the likes of Querari Falcon well placed, ahead of the likes of Just Sensual and Safe Harbour who raced towards the back of the field.

The front runner began to stagger 400m out, when a host of challenges made their move. Quick Brown Fox moved up only for her challenge to peter out, while Just Sensual made her run towards the outside. In the meantime, Safe Harbour was beginning to quicken up down the centre, as Sail and Querari Falcon ran on towards the inside.

With 200m left to run, Safe Harbour looked to set to give her champion trainer Sean Tarry yet another feature race win, only for her to get nabbed just before the winning post by Just Sensual. The latter went on to record a neck win over a very gallant Safe Harbour, with the favourite another three and a half lengths back in third. Sail (Philanthropist) who had to overcome a wide draw, was by no means disgraced back in fourth. The winner stopped the clock in a time of 74.1 for the mile.

It was a tremendous win for the still inexperienced Just Sensual, who had to overcome a wide berth of 12.

Interestingly the first two home in the 2016 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas are both by sons of the former champion sire Fort Wood (Sadler's Wells).

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Just Sensual has now won three of only four starts, and has banked R727 500.

She is out of former Equus Champion Consensual -a daughter of ill-fated sire Camden Park (A P Indy).
