Week of Firsts At The Academy

The Apprentices of the South African Jockey Academy have had many firsts in the past few days!

Mpumelelo Mjoka, a 4th year apprentice at the South African Jockey Academy (SAJA), rode his 1st treble as an apprentice jockey winning Races 1, 6 and 7 at the Flamingo Park Racecourse on Monday 23 January, aboard No. 1 "PRINCE OF SAVOY" No. 8 “GROOVY NEWS” both trained by Jannie Borman and No. 1 “CARIBBEAN BAY” trained by Bill Human.

While Julius Mphanya, a 2nd year apprentice who recently relocated to the Gauteng Jockey Academy in his hometown Johannesburg, rode his 1st winner as an apprentice jockey in Race 6 at the Vaal Racecourse on Tuesday 24 January, aboard No. 7 "CUMBERLAND" trained by Spike Lerena.

The future looks bright for these two young apprentices and there will be many more winners to come from these two young men, if they continue apply themselves with the dedication and hard work required!
