Former Champion Sire Al Mufti (Roberto) really enjoyed a tremendous run of success this past weekend as a broodmare sire. He was damsire of no fewer than 3 winners over the past few days including brilliant debut winner Simply Royal. (Al Mufti’s son Captain Al also shone this weekend and is himself damsire of Saturday’s gutsy Kenilworth winner Kampala Campari).

Simply Royal (Silvano), who made such an impressive winning debut at Turffontein is the latest smart class performer bred on the Silvano/Al Mufti cross.
This particular cross has also produced the champions Bold Silvano and Kings Gambit (both of whom won graded races outside South Africa), Zimbabwean champion Equina, G1 2yo Kings Cross, Gr3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner and Gr1 Gold Cup runner up Balance Sheet, recent Listed Michael Roberts Handicap winner Mr Winsome, current smart 3yo Arissa, impressive Listed Jamaica Handicap heroine Epona, and G2 Gold Bracelet winner Gallica Rose and the latter’s Gr1 placed full brother Galanthus.

(Al Mufti is also damsire of Gr3 winner Quickwood –the dam of recent Gr1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes winner Nightingale –a daughter of Silvano!)
