LLOYD MAKES HISTORY IN AUSTRALIA

Former South African Champion Jockey Jeff Lloyd made history when becoming just the second jockey in 160 years of Queensland Racing to ride 100 metropolitan winners in a Brisbane season.

Lloyd, who achieved the milestone when booting home Medieval to win on Wednesday, said after the victory, “It is satisfying to achieve the landmark and I am glad it is over because I didn’t want it lingering on.”

One of the all time great jockeys in South Africa, Jeff Lloyd currently leads the Australian jockeys standings with a total of 131 wins to his credit.

He could well make more history this weekend, with Lloyd set to ride the favourite Houtzen (I Am Invincible) in the Gr1 Golden Slipper (the world’s richest race for 2yos) at Rosehill this Saturday.

Lloyd was champion jockey six times in South Africa, when he headed the premiership in 1985-1986,1986-1987, 1988-1989, 1991-1992, 1994-1995 and 1995-1996. Also a past champion (5 times) in Mauritius, Jeff Lloyd’s current success is all the more remarkable by the fact that he overcome a stroke in 2013 to return to riding at the top of his game.

He won the majority of South Africa’s major races, with the exception of the July, and has more than 90 Gr1 victories to his credit.

Among the top South African horses ridden by Jeff Lloyd are Wolf Power (Flirting Around), Pocket Power (Jet Master), Sun Classique (Fuji Kiseki), Jay Peg (Camden Park), and Petrava (Imposing).
