GREYS INN, SMART CALL RELATIVE FANCIED FOR WORLD’S RICHEST 2YO RACE

Pariah (Redoute’s Choice), a leading contender for Saturday’s Gr1 Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill is from the same family as South African champions Greys Inn (Zabeel) and Smart Call (Ideal World).

All three horses trace back to the unraced Crowned Prince mare Summoned, who herself produced an astonishing five group winners, including outstanding sprinter and top class sire Zeditave (The Judge).

Greys Inn himself has been in the news as sire of reigning Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle while Smart Call will bid to continue her racing career this year in the UK.

Pariah, winner of the Gr3 Canonbury Stakes, was second last time out, to fellow Slipper runner Catchy (Fastnet Rock), in the Gr1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes. He will jump from barrier four in Saturday’s AUS$ race, and will be ridden by Blake Shinn, who partnered the colt last time out.

The Golden Slipper is currently the world’s richest race for two-year-olds (it will be run for a purse of AUS $3.5 million on Saturday), with its past winners including the likes of subsequent champion sires Flying Spur (Danehill), Vain (Wilkes), Marscay (Biscay) and Todman (Star Kingdom).

South Africa has another connection to the 2017 Golden Slipper, with former champion jockey Jeff Lloyd (seeking his first win in the Slipper) set to partner favourite Houtzen (I Am Invincible). The pair are set to jump from barrier 16 –the widest draw of all.
