Disastrous Mistico Sale for Bloodstock SA

It was a bloodbath at Mistico, the newest venue, for the Cape Yearling Sale as Bloodstock South Africa and their consigners suffered hugely in what the marketers term a 'buyer's market'.

The sale was a shock to the system for breeders who by and large lost on their prized possessions selling them below the cost to rear them.

At an average of R60 594 and Median of R40 000 only a shade over R6 million was turned over.

The new Bloodstock SA structure which is now run by the Michael Holmes/Equine Group combination have taken a step back from the Val De Vie Sale of last year where the average was R134 200 and the median R90 000. Last years top price was R1. 5 million as opposed to R350k this year.

Low interest in the sale and lack of buyers, especially the big hitters, may have contributed to this result. Prudent marketing needs to be done for the companies biggest sale, the National Yearling Sale, to build interest in their flagship sale.
