Superb Debut Win From Jooste Owned Shamardal Colt

Prominent South African businessman and racehorse owner Markus Jooste, is no stranger to having thoroughbreds who get the job done on the international front. His most recent overseas success came at Wolverhampton on Friday evening, when Giant's Treasure flashed home in the all too familiar green, yellow and black silks of Mayfair Speculators.

The colt was ultra impressive, considering that it was his debut, he romped by 4 1/2 lengths and won with consummate ease under jockey Sean Leavy, who took the ride for conditioner Richard Hannon Jr.

Jooste purchased Giant's Treasure for 525, 000 guineas as a yearling, the colt is by top class sire Shamardal (USA) out of the Group 3 winning mare Ballybacka Lady (IRE) by Hurricane Run (IRE). Giant's Treasure is from the family of Westsouthwest; placed in the Group 1 Queensland Derby and South Australian Derby, he has been entered into the EPSOM Derby, South African horseracing would have a hand in the greatest classic race on the planet if all goes according to plan, Jooste may have yet again struck gold.
