ARROGATE BRED FOR GREATNESS

Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song), who is currently a remarkable 2-5 shot for Saturday’s Gr1 Dubai World Cup, is certainly bred to be exceptional.

The once beaten four-year-old, winner of last year’s Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, is one of no fewer than five Breeders’ Cup winners sired by 1995 Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Unbridled’s Song.
The big grey Unbridled’s Song (who was euthanized back in 2013 after having to be found to be suffering from a brain tumour) is one of the very best sires never to officially be champion sire in North America. That statistic could change this year, as thanks to Arrogate’s win in the Gr1 Pegasus World Cup, Unbridled’s Song is currently well clear on the US General Sires List.

The sire, who spent his stud career at Taylor Made, has officially been represented by 115 stakes winners, including 22 Gr1 winners and his offspring have won an astonishing $166 000 000 in stakes.

Arrogate is out of Bubbler, a daughter of former US champion sire Distorted Humor. Bubbler won six of just nine outings, with her wins including four stakes triumphs. She was also third in the 2010 Gr3 Ouija Board Distaff Handicap.
Arrogate is the first winner for his dam, who herself is out of Gr3 Golden Rod Stakes third Gretchen, a daughter of US champion sire and broodmare sire Deputy Minister and former Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner, and US champion 2yo filly of 1990, Meadow Star (Meadowlake).

Meadow Star’s dam Inreality Star is closely related to Really A Star, whose daughter Raise The Pace (Nijinsky’s Secret) ran third in the 1993 Gr1 Garden Province Stakes.

Arrogate himself traces back directly in female line to the great mare Polly Agnes (The Cure), also second dam of unbeaten English Triple Crown winner Ormonde (Bend Or) and third dam of the multiple classic winning mare Sceptre (Persimmon).
