First Winner For Kentucky Derby Victor Orb

Orb (Malibu Moon), winner of the 2013 Gr1 Kentucky Derby, was represented by his first winners as a sire on Sunday when his son Earth made a winning debut.

Earth, who shares his trainer Todd Pletcher with 2017 US classic winners Always Dreaming (Bodemeister) and Tapwrit (Tapit), flew up late to register a first up win over 1000m at Gulfstream Park on Sunday and get his first crop sire off the mark in the process.

A grandson of A P Indy, Orb won five of 12 races and earned more than $2.6 million in prize money.
One of the best 3yos of his generation, Orb reeled off three wins in the row during 2013 –landing the Gr2 Fountain Of Youth by half a length, G1 Besilu Stables Florida Derby by 2.75 lengths and G1 Kentucky Derby by two and a half lengths.

He is also a full-brother to Emancipation (Malibu Moon), who caused a 29-1 upset when making a winning debut over 1400m at Belmont Park on Friday.

Orb, who is from the same female line as South African stallions Brave Tin Soldier (Storm Cat) and Where’s That Tiger) is out of the four time winning mare Lady Liberty (Unbridled).

He has made a huge impression in American sales rings already, with Orb responsible for a colt who fetched $1.25 million at the 2017 OBS March Sale.

Orb stands at Claiborne Farm, with his 2017 stud fee being $25 000.
