Golden Slipper Preview

A full field of 14 two-year-old fillies have been carded to take part in the Gr2 Gold Circle Golden Slipper at Greyville this Saturday.

With the absence of such generation leaders as Brave Mary (Brave Tin Soldier) and Green Plains (Gimmethegreenlight), the 2017 Golden Slipper has a wide open look to it.

Neptune’s Rain (Antonius Pius) would be the filly to beat, on her cracking third in the Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship, but a very wide draw will make it tough for the Duncan Howells trained filly.

Bridal Veil (Visionaire) won well, over subsequent feature race placed Sequined (Oratorio) last time out, but has a poor draw of 14 to overcome which will make things tough for the Charles Laird trained filly.

Champion trainer Sean Tarry saddles three in this race, with riding arrangements suggesting Desert Rhythm (Mambo In Seattle) to be the possible stable pick. Fourth, to stablemate Green Plains, in the Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery, Desert Rhythm, who is making her Greyville debut here, is another with a poor draw to overcome.
Her stable mate London Secret (Gimmethegreenlight) is the best drawn of the Tarry runners and impressed with a good win on debut but was subsequently beaten, albeit by a promising sort, next time out.

Rockin Russian (Seventh Rock), third of the Tarry string, has a poor draw to overcome but did run a good fourth in the recent Listed Devon Air Stakes recently.

Glen Kotzen, who won this race 12 months ago, saddles Gee Whizz (Sail From Seattle) and she was a good winner, in open company, over 1000m last time out. Nicely drawn in five, she could be anything and could well run a big race if seeing out the extra trip.

Facile debut winner Green Top (Gimmethegreenlight), making her first start since February, beat a decent field on debut and she could be anything. A poor draw won’t, however, help the cause of a filly making just her second lifetime start.

Let It Flow (Judpot) appears held by Rockin Russian but does have a much better draw than that rival which could see her turn the tables, while Light On Her Toes (Gimmethegreenlight) looks to have  a stiff task from a 15 draw and looks held by the likes of Rockin Russian on the Devon Air run.

Mara (Var) faces a tough task from winning her maiden, at the fourth attempt, on polytrack, while Outlander (Philanthropist) has been well tried but faces a tough task from winning an MR 71 handicap, albeit in open company, to facing graded stakes company here. Outlander’s stablemate Star Profile (Bold Silvano) has been extremely consistent and would have a chance if repeating her decent runs in the Gr3 Pretty Polly Stakes and G2 SA Fillies Nursery.

Spring Breeze (Querari) looks held by the likes of Desert Rhythm and Green Top, while the Dennis Drier trained Tsessebe (Philanthropist) was most impressive winning second time out but has a nasty draw to overcome he
