GROUP CLEANSWEEP FOR BALLYDOYLE AT NEWMARKET

CLEMMIE (IRE) completed the first leg of a Group double for Aidan O’Brien at Newmarket on Friday when justifying favouritism in the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes. Racing over the same six furlong trip that she had won the Grangecon Stud Stakes earlier in the month, she was partnered by Ryan Moore once again and raced midfield of eight, moving to chase the leaders with two furlongs to go and led a furlong later. Staying on strongly, she won by a length and three quarters, as Nyaleti (IRE) held on for second, with the Ken Condon-trained Mamba Noire running on late for third.

Co-owner Michael Tabor later gave the Moyglare Stud Stakes as an aim for the full-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Churchill (IRE). CLEMMIE (IRE) is out of Listed winner and Queen Mary Stakes second Meow (IRE), who is a half-sister to two Stakes winners by Galileo (IRE), also the sire of CLEMMIE (IRE). The second dam is Airwave, winner of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and Group 2 Temple Stakes, and placed in the Golden Jubilee Stakes won by Choisir and in the July Cup won by Oasis Dream.

Tabor, Smith, Magnier, O’Brien and Moore completed their cleansweep of the card’s Group contests in the Falmouth Stakes, which providedROLY POLY with an overdue Group 1 victory. Placed three times at the highest level, she was last seen chasing home stablemate Winter (IRE) in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. Ryan Moore took the ride at the July course, making all aboard the favourite and continuously applied just enough pressure to maintain the advantage, as the daughter of Galileo (IRE) won by a length and a quarter, ears pricked. Wuheida claimed runners-up honours on her first start since winning the Prix Marcel Boussac last October.
