Arrogate Takes Aim At San Diego Handicap

Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song), officially the world’s rated racehorse by Longines, is set to make his reappearance at Del Mar on Saturday when set to face just five rivals in the Gr2 TVG San Diego Handicap.
The once beaten grey, who will be making his first start since scoring a two and a quarter length win in the Gr1 Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates Airlines back in March.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Arrogate, whose Longines ranking of 134 sees him rated 2lbs superior to Australian champion Winx (Street Cry), has won his last seven races in a row.

Prior to the Dubai World Cup, Arrogate had won the Gr1 Travers Stakes by 13.5 lengths, the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic by half a length from champion California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit), and the inaugural Gr1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes by 4.75 lengths from subsequent Gr1 Santa Anita Handicap winner Shaman Ghost (Ghostzapper).

Owned by Juddmonte Farms, Arrogate will be ridden by Mike Smith (who has partnered the colt in his last four outings) in Saturday’s $300 000 contest, which takes place over 1700m on Del Mar’s dirt track.

He will be conceding from 8 to 11lbs to his rivals on Saturday, with none of his five rivals having previously won a Grade One contest.

Arrogate is likely to be aimed at the Gr1 Pacific Classic and Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic following Saturday’s race.
