Turffontein August 2nd Preview

 Race 1

12:55 PM
Maiden Plate (Fillies & Mares) - 1450m
4 – 5 – 1 – 9
Ice Art (Querari) has been a runner up in her last two starts, 1450m looks to be up her alley on breeding and she should be competitive in an open event. Diva Faustina (Antonius Pius) is improving with each and every run and could be a factor here. Shepherd’s Delight (Warm White Night) does have plenty of racing under the belt, but she is a regular earner and has a small eachway chance. Kick Butt (Traffic Guard) made solid improvement second time out and she cannot be discounted, she could end up taking a front running approach and set the fractions.

Race 2
13:30 PM
MR 62 Handicap (Fillies & Mares) - 1200m
2 – 4 – 1 – 9
Last Girl Standing (Announce) has taken her racing very well and the fact that S’manga Khumalo retains the ride aboard this game filly should give the betting public some confidence. Bally Swiss (Mogok) bounced back to her very best last time out and could give her some cheek. Moss Gass is a 4yo by (The Sheik) and she has claims of following up on gutsy win when last seen in action. Queen At War (Brave Tin Soldier) is in good nick at the minute having earned in her last two starts, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 3
14:05 4
MR 93 Handicap - 1200m
6 – 4 – 1 – 7
Sporting Monarch (Rebel King) has won two on the bounce, the chestnut has never finished out of the money over 1200 and can complete a most impressive hatrick. Pure Blonde (Kahal) could threaten on his form which looks rather solid, he was three lengths behind the decent filly, Wrecking Ball in the Gr3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap. Just As I Said (Just As Well) has been rested for 88 days, but that would have been to freshen him up and get him ready for the long season ahead, he is very consistent and should not need the run. Arabian Beat (Black Minnaloushe) was a Gr1 winner at the age of two, he has never been the same since then, but the ability to run will always be there and he could feature here.

Race 4
14:40 PM
MR 71 Handicap - 1200m
6 – 5 – 1 – 4
Snow In Seattle (Mambo In Seattle) could bounce back to his very best in this event, he represents the Last Girl Standing formline which will be put to the test earlier in the day. Gun Fighter (Imperial Stride) has been there abouts as of late and could definitely have a say here. Hot August (Var) is a decent sprinter, he was four lengths behind, Sporting Monarch when it was last seen in action and he should be right there. Master Boulder who is a (Rock Of Rochelle) hasn’t been all that far back in his last two outings and whilst he may not have winning claims he could earn for the owners.

Race 5
15:15 PM
MR 71 Handicap (Fillies & Mares) – 1000m
1 – 7 – 8 – 9
Cataluga (Fort Wood) was possibly beaten by weight last time out, she is back at 60.0 kg and that could see her become a six time winner from 26 starts. Burgundy Rose (Kings Chapel) is extremely consistent, she gives it her all every single time and punters know what to expect from a honest individual such as herself. Varsity Princess (Var) won on debut, the bay is already four years old and could be absolutely anything. Pipkin sired by a bread and butter stallion (Lateral) has not been disgraced as of late and it would be foolish to write her off completely.

Race 6
15:50 PM
MR 62 Handicap (Fillies & Mares) - 2000m
4 – 2 – 6 – 7
Cranberry Crush (Kahal) has been running very well recently, she meets a rather average field and can score back to back victories. The hard trying and consistent, September Bloom (Gitano Hernando) should be involved in the finish of this event. A P Chanel (A P Arrow) bounced back to land a surprise win and she does appear to have eachway claims. Russian Friend a daughter of (Russian Sage) was a runner up to the latter last time out in a similar handicap and she could earn another cheque for the owners.

Race 7
16:25 PM
MR 76 Handicap (Fillies & Mares) - 2000m
5 – 10 – 6 – 7
Bright Bronte (Antonius Pius) is an extremely hard knocking type, she has Rose Water (Silvano) held on there last run where she defeated her with ease by three lengths. Bondiblu (Seul Amour) looks very competitive with her current form in mind, she has been in the money in 11 out of her last 12 starts and should be right there at the finish. Seal My Fate a daughter of Triple Crown Champion (Horse Chestnut) is a 2000m specialist and can pop up when you least expect her to.

Race 8
17:00 PM
MR 65 Handicap - 2000m
10 – 6 – 2 – 3
Gentlemen Only (Miesque’s Approval) has been desperately unlucky, the bay gelding always runs his heart out and S’manga Khumalo could be just what the doctor ordered in terms of a jockey. Racing Socks who is by the sire (indigo Magic) is a capable sort when he puts his mind on the job and he does look competitive here. Tirzan (Seventh Rock) ran a fair fourth too an up and coming sort in, Tendre and he can only improve on that with a bit of time and racing. Commodore Al (Captain Al) needs more ground, it would be ideal over 2600m, but a quartet berth is not impossible.

Best Bet: Last Girl Standing x Sporting Monarch (double)

Value Bet: Snow In Seattle (same formline as LGS)
