LLOYD RECOGNISED AS JOCKEY OF THE YEAR

Former South African Champion Jockey Jeff Lloyd was crowned Queensland Jockey Of The Year for a second year in a row at the UBET Queensland Thoroughbred Awards on Saturday night.

Lloyd was all conquering last season and rode a record breaking 137 winners for the 2016-2017 racing season.
He ended the year 62 wins clear of Jim Byrne, who was runner up on the table.
Jeff also set a new record during the past season when breaking Chris Munce’s record of 103 wins for a season.

Highlights of his season included Lloyd steering champion Queensland filly Houtzen (I Am Invincible) to victory in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

He moved to Australia in 2008 following a riding career which saw Jeff top the South African jockeys log on six occasions, with Lloyd also enjoying success in all of Mauritius, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The widely travelled Lloyd, who was born in Britain, has also ridden in nine countries during his career – Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England, Germany and Mauritius.

Jeff’s grand tally of big races won include 90 at Gr1 level and more than 20 lesser graded features.

Among the top South African horses he rode were Wolf Power, Sun Classique, Pocket Power, and Hoeberg.
