SNAITH, ZACKEY LEAD THE WAY

A handful of trainers and jockeys have made blistering starts to the 2017-2018 racing season which has been going for well over a month now.
Last season’s Cape Champion trainer Justin Snaith currently leads the South African trainers premiership, with the Snaith yard having already sent out horses to win 20 races this season thus far and earn over R1.549 million in stake money.

Snaith, who was South Africa’s Champion Trainer back in 2013, had a notable treble at Kenilworth on Saturday and looks set to build further to his tally at Kenilworth this afternoon.

Former Champion Apprentice Craig Zackey currently heads the jockeys charge, with Zackey having booted home 19 winners this season just ahead of Callan Murray, with Murray having 17 successes to his name thus far. Once again, the South African Jockeys title looks to be a close affair!

Mayfair Speculators, as has become the norm, top the owners standings with Mayfair owned runners having captured 12 races and over R1 million in purses already this season.

The sires table also bear a strong resemblance to past years, with last year’s Champion Sire Silvano (Lomitas) currently represented by the winners (he had no fewer than six winners this past weekend) of R1 404 062, just ahead of permanent fixture on the top ten sires list, Dynasty. The latter, who has some exceptional three-year-olds to his name in 2017-2018, has already been represented by the earners of in excess of R1.111 million and Dynasty could well be on track to record a fifth Equus Outstanding Stallion title.

Dynasty’s sire Fort Wood, Champion Broodmare Sire for the past three years running, once again leads the Broodmare Sires List a month into 2017-2018.

Summerhill Stud, who formerly topped the breeders log nine years running, head the Breeders premiership at the moment, with their runners having already grossed over R1 831 000 in prize money.
