Aldo's Rocket blasts off for in Selangor

Some nice up and coming milers including Gauteng raiders featured in the 3 year old only Selangor Cup Grade 2 at Kenilworth on Saturday. The 1600m contest was eventually won by a flying Rocket Countdown as the Bass-Robinson inmate showed a clean pair of heels in the final furlong of the contest named after the partnership between Selangor Turf Club in Malaysia and Kenilworth Racing.

Coming onto the final 400m the Puller inmate Steel Rose had a commanding lead and held that up to the around 200m mark when a host of runners started their final push. Even surprising the on course commentator with a sustained effort from off the pace Rocket Countdown hit the front and was picked up late in the piece after taking the lead into the final 150m. There were a plethora of runners in the final furlong dashing for the line the fastest finishing of which was the eventual runner up White River from in form Crawford Stable. He, however, came from the pack with an all too late run for the wire failing to catch the winner.

The first four runners were covered by a length such was the competitive nature of this renewal. Rocket Countdown was the deserved winner in the end with Aldo Domeyer on board. The third pace went to Do it Again, previously unbeaten and then came Broadway Trip, who also lost his unbeaten tag.

Congrats to the Oldlands bred Aldo gelding and of the stallions owners Allan Bloodlines who have put in a lot of work into taking SA racing to their syndicates and beyond into Europe.
