Snaith, Delpech lead the Stats

Justin Snaith has stamped his mark on the current season with the highest number of wins to date by some margin.

Just passing the 100 mark to date, the son of former top Cape Trainer Chris, he has 105 winners to date to the 76 of his nearest rival Alan Greef. Mike De Kock is next best with 74 winners. De Kock has his best South African horses exported to Dubai but still boasts a competitive bunch at home. With son, Matthew playing a larger part in the stable, the De Kock train should be on the top of the premiership for a while to come.

Snaith has both father Chris and brother Jonathan lending a hand in stable affairs. It's no easy task running a stable of this size and demands a team effort.

Snaith is the highest stake earner so far with R15.4 million in the bank, that's some R5.6 million ahead of Sean Tarry. Snaith did with the Sun Met, one of South Africa's richest races in January which assisted the propulsion.

De Kock has the highest win percentage with 17.7 percent of his runners winning, 300 runners or more. The highest placed runners with 300 runners of more I'd Kzn's Dennis Drier.

Tara Laing, who was effectively a private trainer for Markus Jooste and Mayfair Speculators before his demise, has expanded out of that issue nicely and has the highest win rate for 200 or more runner, at 18.3 percent. She has a number of horses who have failed in other centres and blossomed in Port Elizabeth. A nice achievement.

On the jockey front Anthony Delpech leads with 122 winners and just claimed the Gauteng Guineas in impressive fashion on Saturday. He leads Aldo Domeyer and Muzi Yeni, both on 77 winners. Delpech also has the highest win percent at 26.1 percent in front of Anton Marcus and Gavin Lerena.

Interestingly Grant Van Niekerk has earned the most stakes at R12.4 million. This is almost R4 million clear of Delpech. Van Niekerk also has the highest place percentage of any jockey with 300 or more rides.

The leading apprentice is Lyle Hewitson with a mind boggling 87 wins and he now jointly holds the most wins by an apprentice ever in South African racing. The next best apprentice is only on 36 wins.

The leading horse by Stakes is Oh Susanna backed up by that Met win. She is followed by Undercover Agent and Dutch Philip

Omega Onslaught has the most wins this season with 5 out of 8.

Interestingly 3 horses havd unbeaten records this season with 3 wins or more. HASHTAGYOLO, Strathdon and Winter Blues all have 3 wins.
