SHOGUN FIRES IN KINGS CUP

The beautifully-bred SHOGUN (IRE) landed Friday’s prestigious feature at Bahrain, the King’s Cup, following up on last month’s win in the Crown Prince Cup. Frankie Dettori travelled over for the ride in the mile contest restricted to imported horses.

Trained by Alan Smith for Al Adiyat Racing, the five-year-old gelding was previously trained by Aidan O’Brien for Coolmore partners and Anne-Marie O’Brien, having been bred by the O’Brien’s Whisperview Trading. Third at Group 2 level as a juvenile, the son of Fastnet Rock was Group-placed three times the following season.

SHOGUN (IRE) is a full-brother to Epsom Oaks heroine Qualify (IRE), out of Park Hill Stakes second Perihelion (IRE), she a daughter of the great Galileo (IRE) . Further down the page, this illustrious family includes Park Hill Stakes winner Eva Luna and her accomplished progeny, Sea Moon, Brian Boru and Kitty O’Shea.
