Muzi's Grade 1 Crown whilst Triple Tiara is on

Muzi Yeni onboard outsider Lobo’s Legend (20-1), trained by Joe Soma won the R2-million SA Classic (Grade 1) over 1800m at Turffontein on Saturday.

Whilst all eyes were on the top of the betting boards, Yeni whisked the Soma trained runner to glory in emphatic style.

Despite having never ventured beyond sprint distances before, the Trippi colt was in command from a few hundred metres out, eventually winning by a comfortable length and a half from Surcharge, who was also runner up in the Guineas.

Meanwhile Takingthepeace produced another death-or-glory swoop from last to score a thrilling win in the Grade 1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic at Turffontein on Saturday.

Mike De Kock’s Visionaire filly sat stone last from her poor draw, but produced a virtual repeat of her Fillies Guineas win by getting to a luckless Green Top in the final stride.

Muzi Yeni’s mount had looked a certain winner, and after partnering Lobo’s Legend in the Classic he was denied a quick Grade 1 double by the narrowest of margins.

Given Takingthepeace’s style of running the 2450m of the SA Oaks should be right up her alley, and Callan Murray could be celebrating the rare feat of winning a Triple Tiara come 5 May.
