Ramzan Makes His Debut at Scottsville

Yuzae Ramzan, a 2nd year Apprentice at the South African Jockey Academy, who is currently based at Summerveld, will have his first two race ride as an apprentice jockey on Sunday 15 April at Scottsville racecourse in the 2nd race aboard PAMUNKEY and the 6th race, aboard KINGSMEAD, both trained Michael Roberts.
Yuzae openly admits that he is both excited and nervous about the prospect of his first two race rides, saying “I want to thank Mr Roberts and the Owners, Carolyn L Roberts and Dr N A Labuschagne, for the opportunity to ride their horses. I’m going try my hardest to follow my trainer’s instructions, do my best for each mount and ensure that both rides are qualifying rides.”
Yuzae is a 16 year old apprentice, who hails from Lorraine, Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, who previously attend Alexander Road High School before joining the Academy and enjoyed participating in the schools many sporting activities. Yuzae loves playing many sports, but soccer is his favourite sport and he is an avid Liverpool fan. Yuzae wanted to be jockey from a young age as he used to go watch horseracing with his Dad at Fairview racecourse and was always impressed with the skill and athleticism displayed by the jockeys. His favourite jockey is fellow apprentice, Ashton Arries, who he feels is both a very successful apprentice jockey and good role model, who always goes out of his way to help fellow apprentice jockeys.
Yuzae has a small but close and very supportive family that includes his Mom, Razwana, Dad, Rashid, and big sister, Leyya, who will all be travelling up from Port Elizabeth this weekend to support Yuzae and watch his first two race rides. Yuzae loves the support and encouragement he receives from his family and can’t wait to see them.
