Kingsbarns Dead, Massive Loss to SA breeding

Drakenstein Stud lost Kingsbarns on Wednesday due to colic. The outstanding son of Galileo will be a massive lose to the breeding industry in South Africa. His fee was private prior to his sad loss. 2017 was his first season at stud.

Kingsbarns was the first Gr1 winning son of multiple Champion Sire Galileo to stand in South Africa.

He won his maiden by an impressive 7 lengths, he would go onto win the highly prestigious Racing Post trophy Gr1 by 1 ¾ lengths from Group winners Van Der Neer, Steeler, First Cornerstone and Trading Leather. A top juvenile of his generation he earned a Timeform rating 120p, the second highest rated juvenile behind Dawn Approach of that year.

As a 3 year old injury issues ruled him out of a Classic campaign but he bounced back and finished 3rd in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes G1 behind Olympic Glory and Top Notch Tonto, beating Gr1 winners Dawn Approach, Elusive Kate and Soft Falling Rain.

Kingsbarns hails from an exceptional female line, with relatives including 8 x champion sire in NZ, Volksraad, as well as being closely related to Champion Miler and proven Gr1 Sire Rip Van Winkle.
