President Mbeki Graces Turffontein

Thabo Mbeki, the former President of the Republic, graced Turffontein with his presence on Saturday as part of his efforts to promote his Thabo Mbeki Foundation. It was also Youth Day, the 16th of June, as well as being listed as his first official day in office as South Africa's second President.

In particular interest to him was the Youth Day celebration aside from his Foundation day. Phumelela Marketing team did an excellent job in bringing the President to the course. Incidentally 18 June is also Mbeki's birthday. He will be 76. When asked about his celebration on tv, he turned the attention to Young Day ias is his customary humility.

When asked about the foundation event Mbeki stated, "Phumelela invited us and offered the facilities for free, which we are grateful for." He went on to state that the listed racing company had also offered to host his events on other occasion including for next year's Foundation Day. A Big thumbs up to Phumelela for the effort.

What was also missed was that the young apprentice Lyle Hewitson, currently leading the Jockeys Log, was the race winner onboard Carbon Atom for Sean Tarry.

A really great day all round capped off by the youth who won on a very special and sad day in South Africa's deep history.
