A vacancy will become available at the South African Jockey Academy situated in Summerveld. The Academy is looking to appoint a Riding Coach who will work in an environment of developing young elite sportsmen and women. The successful candidate needs to work in a team environment under the guidance of the National Riding Coach and would need to understand the high demands of developing young apprentice jockeys into elite professionals. Applicants would need to have a strong sporting bias and an ability to work with adolescents.

Requirements of the post:

 Have a good understanding of the Thoroughbred Racing Industry.

 Preferably be in possession of a Training and Assessing qualification and if not will be required to obtain such a qualification.

 Possess the ability to mentor adolescents in a demanding apprenticeship.

 Must be able to work in a team environment.

 Be an individual with absolute integrity.

 Possess good interpersonal skills as well as good public relations.

 To be fully computer literate and technologically astute.

 To be a self-motivated individual who is driven to learn as much as to impart skills and knowledge in a learning and training environment.

 To live on the property and to fulfil duties as required during the week and over weekends.

Post Functions:

 Support the holistic development of apprentice jockeys from their inception into the programme to them qualifying as professional jockeys.

 To develop a progression path for each apprentice.

 To conduct regular assessment with the apprentices to guide their development and progress.  To take apprentices to track work daily and to race meetings.

 To conduct all the necessary administrative duties in each apprentices development.

 An integral member of the Multidisciplinary Team. Package to be negotiated.
