World Best Equinox Retires

Equinox, hailed as the epitome of equine excellence, has gracefully concluded his racing career, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. The esteemed Silk Horse Club officially declared on Thursday, via their website, that the four-year-old sensation, with a staggering track record of triumphs encompassing eight victories in ten races, will now transition to a new role at the prestigious Shadai Stallion Station in Abira-cho, Hokkaido.

As the progeny of the illustrious Kitasan Black, Equinox's retirement is nothing short of a grand finale, marked by his domination with six consecutive Group 1 wins. A testament to his exceptional prowess, he departs the racing scene holding the highest-ever rating of 133 bestowed by the JRA Handicapper in Japan. This announcement not only signifies the end of a remarkable racing career but also heralds the beginning of a new chapter for Equinox as he takes up residence at the renowned breeding grounds, adding another layer to his storied legacy.

Shadai Stallion Station has stood the likes of the late Deep Impact recently, who was a sensation at Stud. Now welcoming the highest rated horse ever in Japan, the rating still need verification at an international panel to be discussed in Hong Kong later this year. That rating may eventually be even higher than uh currently is, knowing the conservative nature of the JRA Handicapper.

Equinox won the following major races

Gr2 Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes (2021)
Gr1 Tenno Sho (Autumn) (2022, 2023)
Gr1 Arima Kinen (2022)
Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2023)
Gr1 Takarazuka Kinen (2023)
Gr1 Japan Cup (2023)

He was awarded the Japanese Horse of the Year (2022) and JRA Award for Best Three-Year-Old Colt (2022). He looks to be a certainty for the Horse of the Year award again this year. He is also odds on to win the newly formed Timeform Horse of the Rest of the World.

In winning the latest Japan Cup, Equinox emulated his sire who won it in 2016.
