Drama as Shiskin Falls and Lets in Others

Following the serene triumphs of the impressive Il Est Francais and Constitution Hill, the drama unfolded at Kempton on Boxing Day with the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase taking center stage.

This race has a history steeped in drama, with memorable moments such as Barton Bank's unseating of Adrian Maguire nearly 30 years ago and Kicking King's final fence escapade with a wayward Santa a decade later. Kauto Star himself had his share of last obstacle moments amid five glorious victories.

Adding to this list was Shishkin, who carried the ominous Timeform squiggle due to his previous reluctance to race at Ascot. Despite initial hesitancy at the start, Nico De Boinville's determined persuasion set Shishkin in motion, displaying the most animation from his jockey throughout the race.

After a flawless performance and impeccable behavior, Shishkin took control approaching the turn down the far side, seizing the lead seven fences from home. However, the drama unfolded when, two lengths clear two fences out, Shishkin slipped a few strides after a superb jump, sending De Boinville crashing to the turf.

In the midst of this misfortune, Allaho briefly took the lead but tired, allowing Bravemansgame to capitalize. Unexpectedly, Hewick, trading at 550s in-running on Betfair, stormed down the outside against all odds, picking up the pieces for Gavin Sheehan in a thrilling turn of events.
