Century Up for Hewitson in Hong Kong

Lyle Hewitson celebrated his remarkable 100th victory during the electrifying Chinese New Year gathering at Sha Tin earlier today.

A jubilant aura enveloped the South African jockey as he clinched his century milestone aboard the South African-bred Parterre, a 7-year-old gelding sired by Flower Alley. The triumph marked Parterre's second win, the this time under the astute guidance of trainer So.

Parterre's journey traces back to his promising beginnings at Fairview, where he showcased his potential with a victorious second outing winning his maiden in Gqeberha. Noteworthy among his achievements is a commendable 4th-place finish in the prestigious Cape Derby, competing alongside the formidable multiple Gr1 victor, Golden Ducat. He was shopped overseas thereafter.

Hewitson's ongoing season tally boasts an impressive 20 triumphs, propelling his total stakes earnings beyond the HKD 40 million mark. His illustrious career in South Africa earned him the distinguished title of dual champion, having been crowned both South Africa Champion Jockey (in 2017/18, 2018/19, and 2020/21) and South Africa Champion Apprentice (in 2016/17 and 2017/18).

Among his many notable conquests are victories in some of South Africa's most esteemed races, including the Gr1 Thekwini Stakes (with Rain In Holland in 2021), Gr1 Gauteng Summer Cup (guided Tilbury Fort to victory in 2018), Gr1 Garden Province Stakes (steering Redberry Lane to success in 2018), Gr1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge (with Undercover Agent in 2018), Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint (partnering with Celtic Sea in 2019), Gr1 Gold Medallion (claiming victory aboard Eden Roc in 2019), and another Gr1 Garden Province Stakes triumph (with Celtic Sea in 2019). Additionally, his prowess extended to Hong Kong, where he secured victories in the G2 Spring Stakes (with Galore Creek in 2020) and the G2 Aobo Sho (guiding Authority to victory in 2020).
